IMAGE TECH is a weight-bearing, somatic technique consisting of standing exercises, imagery, and tactile prompts designed to increase awareness, alignment, and stability while preparing dancers for demonstrative vertical dance techniques. Created by Alexandra Wells in the year 2000, IMAGE TECH is inspired by the Alexander Technique and the work of anatomist Irene Dowd. IMAGE TECH is continually evolving as dancers from all over the world experience its utility. While dancers may feel immediate benefits after just one class, it takes focused practice of IMAGE TECH to alter habitual patterns and create space for healthy new habits.

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Rachel Ferring graduated summa cum laude from the Boston Conservatory in 2017. Upon graduating, she moved to Chicago to join the inaugural class of Hubbard Street’s Professional Program (HSPro) under the tutelage of Alexandra Wells. During her time at HSPro, she performed in site-specific improvisational performances curated by Kristina Isabelle as a part of Isabelle’s company, Michigan City Moves. She spent the 2019/2020 season as an apprentice with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago where she performed works by Ohad Naharin, Peter Chu, Robyn Mineko Williams, and Rena Butler. She spent Fall of 2020 with GroundWorks Dance Theater as a seasonal artist before ultimately returning to Chicago where she currently performs with Little Fire Artist Collective as a dancer and musician. In 2020, Rachel completed her teaching certification for IMAGE TECH for dancers™ 101, a weight bearing somatic technique created by Alexandra Wells, and is excited to be offering this information at Chicago Movement Collective.
