Kara Brody

Kara Brody (she/her) is a performer, educator, and collaborator based in Chicago, IL. Focusing her practice towards community driven spaces, her work expands on a desire for connection through live performance and long-term developmental process. Kara articulates her richly layered history as a queer, transnational adoptee with a multicultural background through her contributions as a collaborator and teacher. Her practice is deeply inspired by Eddie Taketa, Julia Rhoads, Meg Paul, Nick Lechter, Doug Varone, Stacey Manzanares, and Biba Bell. Kara holds a BFA in Dance from Wayne State University.

Most recent projects include Knockout, a collaboration with Erin Kilmurray supported by Lucky Plush Productions’ Embodied Research Project; work around, a dance series curation at Steppenwolf 1700 Theatre for the LOOKOUT series; as well as works with Faye Driscoll, The Fly Honey Show, Chris Masters Dance, and Is/Land. Kara has also performed with Lucky Plush Productions, The Cambrians, Khecari, and Danceable Projects | Erick Montes.

While in Chicago, Kara has taught weekly classes at University of Chicago, COMMON Conservatory, The Joffrey Academy, Chicago Movement Collective, Visceral Dance Center, Dovetail Studios, and Lucky Plush Productions’ Community Class. She has guest taught at Rutgers University and Northern Illinois University. Kara has also led community and intensive workshops for Lucky Plush Productions teaching at The Kennedy Center, Sonoma State University, Hamilton College, and The Dance Center of Columbia College as well as for The Cambrians, Hedwig Dances, Pro.Noun Dance Festival, Young Dancer’s Initiative, and Brighton Dance Festival.
